Message It is rotating mass . V engines can have knife edged counterweights. It is done on hot rodded V-8s. However on V engines the balance is more critical. When you knive edge you have to balance the rotating mass by removing material on the opposite end. The opposite end is the crank pin and the lower part of the connecting rod.
